Geneva 2014: Audi TT & TTS mk3
Audi chooses Geneva to unveil the third generation of the TT coupe.
The new TT îs only 4.18 meters long, hence shorter than the 4198 mm TT mk2 (13.71 ft) it replaces, but built on a 37 mm longer wheelbase ( 2505 mm). As a result, front and rear overhangs are reduced. Width (1832 mm) and height (1353 mm) are identical to the millimeter to the previous generation car. The coupe retains its aluminium construction, but sheds 50kg in comparison with a similarly engined predecessor, tipping the scales at 1,230 kg for the 2.0 TFSI version. The trunk reaches 305 litres in volume (+13L). The mk3 TT color palette features 11 colors, 7 of which are new to the TT and two new to the brand: Nano Gray and Tango Red.
Interior design was already unveiled at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and is remarkably uncluttered. The instrument panel and MMI multimedia interface were combined in one large LCD display in front of the driver measuring 12.3″ in diagonal with a resolution of 1,440 x 540 pixels. The interface has been redesigned from the ground up, allowing to control most functions either from the steering wheel or the MMI pod on the center console. Natural speech input is also supported. The result is extremely convincing, with fluid transitions and clear layouts in the different display modes:
New inflatable sports seats are available as an option on the TT and standard equipment on the TTS.
Three engines and two transmissions are available from launch:
-TT 2.0 TDI: 184 hp, 380 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and 235 km/h top speed, normalized gas consumption 4.2 L/100 km
