Ferrari 458 Speciale

Ferrari unveils today a more extreme version of the 458 Italia.

Ferrari customers and fans have come to expect more extreme versions of V8 Berlinettas, and the 458 Italia is no exception. Let’s start with the engine output figures : 605 hp at 9000 rpm and 540 Nm at 6000 rpm, compared to a 570hp and … the same torque value on the standard model. This 4.5L V8 can claim the highest specific power of any roadgoing, naturally aspirated engine: 135 hp/liter. The claimed dry weight is 1290 kg. Performance figures make a leap forward, with only 3.0 s for the 0-100 km/h acceleration, 9.1 s for 0-200 km/h. The lap time on the factory’s Fiorano test track is 1’23″5.

Ferrari announces on this 458 Speciale the first active aerodynamics systems, a technology slated to become a standard feature for its GT model range. Another innovation is the Side Slip angle Control system (SSC), which improves the control of the car at the limit by regulating engine torque and the electronic differential. New tires were co-developed with Michelin for this car: the Pilot Sport Cup 2.

There are no price indications as of now, but the Ferrari 458 Speciale will undoubtedly be one of the stars of the upcoming IAA Frankfurt Autoshow.
