Porsche Taycan Turbo S: electrified sports car
Porsche has chosen to unveil this groundbreaking new model simultaneously in three symbolic venues: Neuhardenberg, a solar farm near Berlin, the Niagara Falls, a hydroelectric site, and on the island of Pingtan near Fuzhou, China, where the world’s largest offshore wind farm is located.
The Porsche Taycan is based on a specific plateform – codename J1 – which it will share with the upcoming Audi e-tron GT. Its styling remains true to the Mission E concept. The four door sedan coupe integrates the design language of the brand with a sloping roof line, sculpted haunches and C pilars reminiscent of the 911.
The electric system operates under 800 Volts, a first for a series production electric car and twice that of other electric passenger cars. Increased voltage brings the benefits of reduced weight. The battery pack has a gross capacity of 93.4 kWh, which results in a range of up to 450 km according to the WLTP standard.
This battery pack can be charged at up to 270 kW of power. This allows to charges from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes, or to refill 100 km of range in 5 minutes. The Taycan also carries a 11 kW AC charger for domestic use or destination charging.
