Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept

A new evolution of Audi’s Sport Quattro Concept will be presented at CES 2014.
A new evolution of the Sport Quattro Concept will be presented at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Named Laserlight, it builds on the plug-in hybrid technology of the previous version, with a total system power of 700hp and 800Nm of torque. These figures are reached by the combination of a twin turbo V8 petrol engine and an electric motor fed by a 14.1 KWh Lithium Ion battery pack. Range in electric mode is 50km (30 miles), and claimed normalized gas consumption is 2.5 l/100km. The twin clutch gearbox features 8 ratios. Dimensions are unchanged (wheelbase of 2,784 mm, 4,602 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width and only 1,386 mm tall, so are the wheels (285/30 R 21) and weight (1850 kg).

Audi has worked on the man machine interface. A new steering wheel has been developed, with a four new buttons: one for engine start, one for hybrid mode selection, one for drive select modes and one for the various display schemes supported by the new display replacing traditional dials. This high resolution LCD dispaly offers also 3D functions to display parameters which are normally accessible through an auxiliary multimedia display. Navigation through these options is still done via the MMI control pod located on the center console. The display system is powered by a Tegra 30 processor from Nvidia.

The Laserlight Concept inherits its name from new lighting technology. In the dual headlights, Audi combines matrix LED and laser light technologies. The outer trapezoidal elements in the headlights clusters generate the low beam light using matrix LEDs and an aperture mask, while the inner element produces laser light for high-beam functionality. The laser diodes are significantly more powerful than LEDs, illuminating the road for a distance of nearly 500 meters, or twice the lighting range and three times the luminosity of LED high beam lights.
