Presentation of the new Mercedes C-Class.

Mercedes unveiled the successor to its bestseller, the C-Class. No less than 2.4 million units of the previous generation (W204) were sold since 2007. This new model has been thoroughly redesigned so that it can propose more boot capacity (increased to 480 liters) and more space in the back. The wheelbase has gained 80 millimetres to reach 2.84 metres, the length has been increased by 95 millimetres to 4.686 metres and the width by 40 millimetres to 1.81 metres. Although the car’s dimensions have been significantly increased, Mercedes has put the new C-Class on a significant diet:  up to 100 kg were shed in comparison to the older C-Class.

At launch, three engines are available, including a four-cylinder 2.2 L diesel one that produces 170 hp with 400 Nm of torque (0-100km/h in 8.1s, 4.0 L/100km and 103g/km CO2) and two petrol engines with capacities of 1.6 L and 2.0 L. The petrol engines have an output of 156 hp/250Nm  (0-100 km/h in 8.2s, 5.0 L/100km and 116 g/km CO2) and 184 hp/300Nm (0-100 km/h in 7.5s, 5,3 L/100km, 123 g/km CO2) respectively. Fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 20% in comparison with the former model. Other engines will be made available in the future, including:

– 1.6L turbodiesels with 115hp/280 Nm ou 136hp/320 Nm
– an advanced version of the 2.2L turbodiesel with 204hp
– three other 4 cylinder petrol variants with outputs up to 238hp
– a 333hp petrol six cylinder
– a hybrid-diesel with the same powertrain as the S and E Class (C300 BlueTEC Hybrid with 204 + 27 hp and 3.9L/100km)
– a plug-in hybrid version

A 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard while a 7-speed automatic and a 4 MATIC all-wheel-drive transmission are also available as an option. Finally, Mercedes proposes for the first time in this segment a suspension which adapts the damping system to the road conditions. All the latest technologies regarding safety are also available.

The new C-Class can be ordered from now on with prices starting at CHF 44,900.
