MINI Cooper mkIII
The BMW group unveils the new MINI, “third” generation !
La new MINI grows up. Length is up by 98 mm, width by 44 mm height by 7 mm. Wheelbase is longer as well (+ 28 mm) and the front and rear tracks wider (+42mm front, +34 mm rear) in comparison with the mk2 model. The resulting outside dimensions are 3821 mm in length (MINI Cooper S : 3850 mm) , 1727 mm in width and 1414 mm in height. The wheelbase comes in at 2495 mm. A longer and wider MINI, but also a more welcoming MINI. The interior gains with a longer seat travel at the front and a deeper seating surface for rear passengers (+ 23 millimètres). The luggage compartment grows by 51 litres, reaching 211 litres in volume. The evolution is clearly visible in the family photo:
Esthetically, the new MINI adopts new headlights with circular daytime running lights and, as an option, LED headlamps. The new MINI will be available in 5 new colors, with contrasting – black or white – roof and mirror paint, on request and at no extra charge. Roof bars will be available for the first time on a MINI.
Under the bonnet, three new engines:
– a 1499 cm3 three cylinder petrol engine with an output of 136hp from 4 500 to 6 000 rpm avec un couple maximum de 220 Nm de 1250 à 4750 rpm (230 Nm with Overboost). Acceleration (0 to 100 km/h) : 7,9 seconds (automatic gearbox : 7,8 seconds), top speed : 210 km/h, normalized gas consumption* : 4,5 to 4,6 litres (4,7 à 4,8 litres) per 100 km, CO2 emissions : 105 to 107 g/km (109 to 112 g/km). DIN kerb weight is claimed at 1085kg DIN.
– in the MINI Cooper S, a 4 cylinder petrol engine of 1998 cm3 in displacement, putting out 192 hp from 4700 to 6000 rpm for a peak torque of 280 Nm from 1250 to 4 750 rpm (300 Nm with the Overboost function). Acceleration (0 à 100 km/h) is covered in 6,8 seconds (automatic : 6,7 seconds) and top speed reaches 235 km/h (233 km/h). Normalized gas mileage : 5,7 to 5,8 litres (5,2 to 5,4 litres) per 100 km, CO2 emissions : 133 to 136 g/km (122 to 125 g/km). This engine is EU6 emissions compliant. DIN kerb weight is claimed at 1160kg.
– the MINI Cooper D hosts a 3 cylinder diesel engine of 1496 cm3 with peak power of 116 ch at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 270 Nm at 1750 rpm. Acceleration (0 à 100 km/h) : 9,2 seconds, top speed : 205 km/h (204 km/h), normalized fuel consumption : 3,5 to 3,6 litres (3,7 to 3,8 litres) per 100 km, CO2 emissions: 92 to 95 g/km (98 to 99 g/km). DIN kerb weight is 1135kg DIN.
These engines come with a six gear manual transmission as standard, and can be mated to a 6 gear automatic or a sport automatic gearbox.
The new MINI features a revised instrument concept. The steering wheel column receives an instrument cluster showing road speed, engine speed and a fuel gauge, as well as a colour display for vehicle status details. The central instrument adopts new display elements and coloured lighting configuration including LED ring for visual feedback in response to numerous operating functions, 4-line TFT display as standard or optional colour display up to 8.8 inches in size. The new MINI comes with a keyless system, the engine can be started with a start/stop button at the centre called toggle switch bar.
