VW Golf 7 R

Volkswagen presents the sportiest version of the new Golf VII, the Golf R.

VW continues to deploy the model range of the seventh generation Golf with this flagship version: the Golf R. The engine configuration has not been disclosed, but the output is: 300 hp, up 30 from the preceeding Golf 6 R. This comes most certainly courtesy of the ubiquitous 2 liter 4 cylinder TFSI. Gas mileage is significantly improved as well with a claimed 18% improvement to 6.9 L/100km in the combined cycle.

Power is sent to the four wheels through the 4Motion system. Torque split between the front and rear axle is managed by a 5th generation Haldex differential. The chassis sits 20mm lower than the standard Golf and an adaptive damping system – featuring a “Race” mode – is now available as an option. The Golf R is available either with a manual or twin-clutch DSG gearbox. The latter achieves the best acceleration times, with 4.9s for the 0-100 km/h dash, and a better fuel efficiency as well. The manual version concedes 0.4s to 100 km/h and has a combined cycle rating of 7.1 L/100km.

The new Golf R will be launched on the swiss market in december 2013 for a base price of CHF 49’400.- (manual) or CHF 51’900.- (DSG).
