Alfa Romeo unveils today the production version of its 4C whose concept instilled a passionate response from car enthusiasts since its presentation at the 2011 Geneva Autoshow.
The 4C tag is inspired from the brand’s glorious past and refers more specifically to the race and production cars from the 1930 and 1940 era, the famous 6C (6 cylinders) and 8C (8 cylinders). The 4C is deemed worthy of this legacy with a power to weight ration under a claimed 4 kg per hp. This result is mainly reached by a full carbon chassis.
The engine is an all aluminum turbocharged 1750 cm3 4 cylinder. It is an evolution of the powertrain already installed under the hood of the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, with direct injection and specific intake and exhaust systems. It also implements a revolutionary scavenging control system that gets rid of any turbo lag. The transmission to the rear wheels uses a twin clutch gear box activated by paddles behind the steering wheel. The traditional DNA selector adds a Race setting to the Dynamic, Natural and All Weather modes.
The overall car dimensions disclosed at this time are 200 cm in width, 118 cm in height and a wheelbase of less than 240 cm. This car will be built in Italy at the Maserati factory and it will be commercially available in 2013.
