McLaren unveils the first model of the Sport Series: the 570S Coupé.
After Ferrari and Lamborghini, her comes the turn of Porsche and Audi. McLaren launches at the 2015 New York auto show the first model of its Sports Series range, the 570S Coupé. This first model anchors the third range in the McLaren line-up, beside the Super Series (650S, 675 LT) and the Ultimate Series (P1).
The recipe of the 570S draws on similar ingredients with its sibblings: a carbon fiber tub and a twin turbocharged engine. The 3.8L M838TE V8 puts out 600 Nm of torque from 5000 to 6500 rpm, while power peaks at 570 hp at 7,400 rpm. In coherence with its slot in the McLaren model range, these figures are a step down from the 678 Nm and 650 hp of the 650S, but are very competitive when stacked up against competition: the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8. Thanks to a its light weight constructino (1,313 kg dry, likely to translate into around 1450kg kerb), claimed performance is first class: 0-100km/h in 3.2s, 0-200km/h in 9.5s. Top speed is 328 km/h. Transmission is the same 7 ratios twin clutch SSG system as the other models, with torque sent to the rear wheels. Brakes use carbon ceramic rotors as standard fittment. The forged wheels are shod with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, 225/35/R19 front and 285/35/R20 rear.
The MonoCell II carbon fiber chassis has been revised with a focus on every day usability and ease of access in and out of the bucket seats. Suspension differs from the Super Series through the adoption of adaptative dampers and conventional anti-roll bars in lieu of the hydraulic system used in the 12C and 650S. Damping can be ajusted between three modes, Normal, Sport and Track. Exterior styling is a subtle evolution of the “McLaren face” adopted on the Super Series and Ultimate Series, with floating pillars linking the roof to the rear fenders and a concave rear window. The interior gets also a specific styling, with particular attention given to storage space, in addition to the 150 litres of boot space. The 7″ IRIS touch screen system integrates the air conditioning controls and is integreated on a redesigned center console.
