Audi presents the new S1: Quattro, torque and power for the A1 range ! 

Until today, the Audi A1 range peaked with the Sport version powered with the 1.4L TFSI tuned to 250Nm and 185hp, sent to the front wheels. Audi had already equipped the A1 with a more vigorous engine and an all-wheel-drive transmission in A1 Quattro, with a 2.0L TFSI in 350 Nm/256hp tune, but this was a limited edition restricted to 333 cars, largely allocated to the swiss market.

With the S1, Audi equips the A1  with Quattro transmission and the muscle of the 2.0L TFSI engine, tuned here to 370 Nm/231 hp. Power is up by 1 symbolic horsepower over the 230hp of the Golf 7 GTI Performance, but torque gains a useful 20 Nm. The S1 is available with a 6 gear manual or twin-clutch S-Tronic gearbox. The Quattro system is based on a hydraulic multidisc clutch located on the rear axle. The electronic differential lock with the wheel-selective torque control is a function of the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC). It features two-stage deactivation and supplements the work of the multi-plate clutch with additional braking intervention on the inside wheels to increase agility. The rear suspension adopts a multilink set-up.

Audi announces 5.8 (respectively 5.9 seconds for the 5 door Sportback) for the 0-100 km/h acceleration, and a top speed of 250 km/h. Normalized fuel consumption is 7.0 L/100km (resp. 7.1 for the Sportback). Wheels are mounted with 215/40R17 as standard, with 225/35 R18 as an option. Discbrakes have been upgraded to 310 mm in diameter. Xenon headlights are part of the standard equipment.

La S1 will be available both as a 3 door hatchback and 5 door Sportback, and its market launch is expected in the second trimester of 2014. Pricing is set at 29.950 Euro (Sportback: 30.800 Euro) in Germany.
